A Thai talk show host has been sued for criticizing weed policy


An arrest warrant has been issued for a well-known television personality who is now heading to court for criticizing the government’s move to decriminalize cannabis.

A well-known TV personality said today that he faces prison for criticizing the government’s failure to criminalize weed.

Natakorn Devakula revealed during wake up thailand This afternoon’s talk show said he was called to respond to a charge of defamation over his on-air remarks criticizing Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Public Health Honcho Anutin Charnvirakul.

“I criticized people who legalized marijuana, and the police came to my house with an arrest warrant,” Natakorn said. “But if I grow marijuana in my house, they won’t come and arrest me. Is society abnormal?”

The 45-year-old ex-governor candidate said he has to travel to Buriram county, home of Anutin’s Bhumjaithai party, to attend Friday’s court hearing.

Defamation is a criminal offense in Thailand and carries a two-year prison sentence and a fine of 200,000 baht.
