La Bottega de Luca

When it comes to fine Italian food, La Bottega lives up to expectations in every look and feel, from the authenticity of the food (taken from all over Italy), the practical service by the chefs and staff and the upscale ambiance. This has been one of the most respected Italian places in Bangkok for the better part of a decade, and for BK Restaurant Week, they’re pulling all stops. Indulge in elegant appetizers like stuffed calamari (sausage, borlotti beans, red onion and tomato confit) and mains like Tuscan-style hand-rolled pasta with pink garlic, homemade tomato sauce and extra virgin olive oil.

You know their meals on Sukhumvit Soi 45 at Gigi Dining Hall & Bar, try out now the smooth new Gigi Café in Asoke. Café Gigi features casual Italian dining with pizza and pasta, healthy nuts you’ll find gluten-free pasta and vegan dishes, with menus curated by Edoardo Bonavolta (one of the early pioneers of Bangkok’s modern vegetarian wave). So vegan lovers can rejoice with a three-course menu that includes at least one vegan option for each dish, like the delicious sweet pear ricotta cake and patcheri-style eggplant noodles. Luca Appino’s popular cozy pizzeria (La Bottega di Luca, mentioned above) takes the Italy-meets-France approach to pizza. Pumped from two huge ovens from Italy, the pizzas here are delicate, refined affair that often carry extravagant toppings. BK Restaurant Week’s three-course presentation begins with a selection of classic appetizers (cheese plate, caprese salad, or mixed “elegant” salad) and features mains that cover your pizza bases (burrata and Capocolo Calabro or boscaiola) but it also extends to things like grilled pork chops and pasta. Top it all off with some delicious ice cream for dessert and you’ll be stuffed.

Surrounded by brothels turned boutiques on Maitrey Chit Road, Contento is distinguished by its navy blue paint and white pineapple wall carvings. Rest assured, the menu doesn’t shy away from preparation. European comfort food takes center stage with straightforward dishes packed with flavour. Start your meal with slices of white anchovies drenched in pesto and served on toast, choose from sautéed baby pink shrimp or truffle polenta for appetizers, naked tomatoes or grilled Caesar salad from the garden, vodka rigatoni or spaghetti vongole to round out the meal with some handcrafted pasta.
