COVID cases may peak in Metro Manila this week, according to independent research firm OCTA

You may want to be extra careful while out and about in the next few days – independent research firm OCTA said Manila could see a peak in COVID cases this week.

In an interview with CNN PhilippinesOCTA Research Fellow Dr. Guido David said the rush on the metro could result in about 1,000 cases a day.

The peak is based on the slowing rate of COVID-19 growth in Manila, which was recorded at 28 percent this week compared to 41 percent last week.

David explained that the peak is not guaranteed to happen this week, but it is only a possibility because we are seeing a slowdown in the rate of growth. It’s already down to 20 percent or so.”

In a separate tweet, David said the positivity rate in the National Capital Region was 12.6 percent as of July 12. On the other hand, he advised neighboring counties with positivity rates over 20 percent to exercise caution.

On Sunday, the country recorded 2,560 new infections on Sunday, the fourth consecutive day in which the number of injuries reached two thousand.
