Daily Covid-19 cases rose rapidly to 2,815 in Hong Kong, and one more death was reported

Hong Kong recorded 2,815 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, up sharply from 2,268 the day before.

Among the new infections, 2,672 were local and 143 were imported.

The city also recorded one new death, a 71-year-old woman.

The patient had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure and had suffered a stroke in the past, said Gladys Cowan, senior director of clinical effectiveness and technology management at the Hospital Authority.

She was also bedridden for a long time and took care of her family at home.

Kwan also said the authority is “extremely concerned” about the increasing number of newly admitted and hospitalized Covid-19 cases.

Recent hospitalizations have increased from 30 to 40 cases in early June to more than 100 in the past few weeks.

Meanwhile, the number of cases in hospitals has risen from about 400 in early June to about 830 now.

“The number has doubled,” she said.

“We are concerned that the Covid-19 situation is becoming more serious.”

She urged residents to stay alert, get all necessary lunges and get checked regularly.
